Project Scope

The goal was to improve overall usability and navigation across the platform while fully supporting both Welsh and English throughout the user experience. Much of the work centred around simplifying complex service forms and processes making them easier to understand and complete, no matter the user’s background or digital confidence. Throughout the redesign, I worked within public sector design and accessibility frameworks, ensuring full compliance with WCAG guidelines and best practices in inclusive UX.

Objectives

The main objective of this project was to improve access to public services by creating a more inclusive, user-friendly experience for both Welsh and English speakers. This meant not only supporting bilingual content, but also ensuring that key services especially translation requests were easy to find and complete. The project also aimed to modernise outdated visual design, simplify the overall user journey, and enhance accessibility across all devices and user groups. Every design decision needed to meet public sector standards and be fully compliant with WCAG accessibility guidelines, while still feeling approachable and easy to navigate.

Solutions delivered

I introduced a cleaner visual layout and restructured the content hierarchy to better support user flow, particularly on mobile devices. With a mobile-first approach, the updated interface improved clarity and reduced friction at key moments in the user journey. Working closely with developers, I ensured consistency across bilingual versions of the site both in structure and tone. One of the core deliverables was a fully bilingual, user-friendly form for requesting translation services. Designed for clarity and ease of use, this form significantly improved access to a service that was previously difficult to navigate. The final design was delivered in a modular format, ready to be integrated seamlessly into the platform’s existing CMS and scalable for future needs.
