Visual Redesign for a Cultural & Heritage Platform in Wales

Project Scope

This project focused on elevating the digital presence of a Welsh cultural heritage platform through a visual refresh of key areas — including the homepage banner and the monument content pages. The aim was to modernise the platform’s look and feel, increase engagement and better present its rich, story-led content. At the same time, it was important to preserve historical integrity and stay aligned with both brand and accessibility standards.

Objectives

The redesign centred on two key areas: creating a visually compelling homepage banner and improving the layout and readability of the monument pages. The banner needed to immediately highlight key heritage themes and invite users deeper into the platform. Meanwhile, the content pages required clearer structure and navigation to better support user journeys and encourage longer, more meaningful engagement. While refreshing the visual identity, care was taken to respect the tone and depth of the historical material ensuring every design choice enhanced, rather than diluted, the storytelling.

Solutions delivered

I introduced a responsive homepage banner that drew attention to cultural themes through bold, dynamic visuals. The content templates for the monument pages were restructured to prioritise clarity, storytelling and key actions like booking, helping users move more intuitively through the site. A modular layout system was developed to support future content expansion, allowing flexibility as the platform grows. I also worked closely with internal editorial and content teams throughout the project to ensure accuracy, alignment with brand values, and a consistent voice across all updates.

Impact

As a result of the redesign, user engagement time on the monument pages increased and accessibility and mobile usability scores improved. The new layout system provided a strong foundation for future rollouts, making the platform not just more attractive but easier to use, easier to grow, and more compelling for visitors exploring Wales' cultural history.
