Multilingual services for the public sector

Accessible, multilingual services for the public sector in Wales

Project Scope

This project involved UX and visual design support across multiple platforms aimed at improving access to services for a broad Welsh and English-speaking audience. The focus was on modernising legacy systems, improving accessibility and streamlining user interactions — particularly for access to translations

Objectives

The aim was to improve overall usability and navigation across the platform, while ensuring that bilingual accessibility in both Welsh and English was fully supported. A key focus was on designing clear, user-friendly interfaces for complex service forms, making them easier to complete for a wide range of users. All visual design work was carefully aligned with public sector standards and fully compliant with current accessibility guidelines, including WCAG requirements.

Solutions delivered

As part of the platform enhancements, I introduced cleaner layouts and an improved information hierarchy, all designed with a mobile-first approach to ensure optimal usability across devices. I worked closely with developers to maintain consistency across bilingual versions of the platform. Additionally, I led the redesign of a user-friendly, fully bilingual form for requesting translation services. Accessibility was a core focus. The final design was delivered in a modular format, ready for seamless integration into the existing CMS.
